+39 if I win, I'd give a million to all my coworkers, and more to random people I encounter

At the end of the day it's just a currency, and when I'm dead & gone it will not matter, so bless as many people as you can if you do win.

+50 @Envir0 You will be dead way sooner than you think if you do that.

+21 @PirateKilt Giving it away like that turns out to be REALLY expensive, really quickly, with you basically ending up giving most of the money to the Government in taxes. The current 'gift giving" exemption is $11.7 million dollars over your entire lifetime, and that includes your estate after you die. The tax rate after that cap is passed is 40%... so, for every dollar you give away (or leave to pass on to your heirs) 40 cents of it goes to the Government. And that's ***AFTER*** you've already paid the 37% tax rate for winning, reducing the amount of cash put in you bank account. Currently, with the projection showing the winning to be $1.1B, once you properly take the lump sum and pay off all the Federal taxes (and hope your State, county, city, district does hold out their hands too), you are "only" dropping $408M into your accounts. Much better format is to work with your CPA before even claiming the cash, set up a charitable trust, have ***IT*** claim the winnings. That recues how much the Gov gets to steal at the very beginning, and dynamically reduces the amount of taxes paid on endowments the Trust grants. Meanwhile, the trust pays you a nice sizeable salary, for the trust's housing, charity related vehicles, etc. Also, you suddenly start getting invited to events and find yourself getting wined & dined by organizations hoping to snag some of the free money your Trust gives away... Side benefit... you set up the control of the trust to pass to your heirs on your demise, and the money just stays the Trust's, so the Gov does NOT get to do it's 40% bite.

+14 @pendletonskyforce Please don't give cash. At the very least do your giveaways through a lawyer.
