If I were Filthy Rich

+29 If I win the lottery, I would start my own supermarket chain

I’d start off with one store. I’d make it so that everything was sourced from within 50 miles of the store, all local producers and suppliers and I’d pay them all over the going rate. I’d poach all the great decent hard working people from the other local supermarkets and pay them a really decent wage.

I’d make them all sign a contract saying that after 5 years of commitment then they would all receive part ownership of the company. After I had recouped some of my initial investment I would turn all of the profits over to the workers, and also have a plan to roll out other stores across the country.

Insanely good working conditions, shared profit, environmentally sound, everyone would want to work for the company. Hopefully this would also be the catalyst that brings about the new glorious socialist revolution.

+43 @nunyabidnez76 Paying a decent wage? Awesome. Giving committed employees a stake in the company? Also great. Locally sourced? Complicated to pull off safely but a worthwhile endeavor. Turning a profit while competing with stores that don't follow these same policies? Good luck finding customers willing to pay $10 for a bag of locally sourced carrots.

+20 @SummonedShenanigans Everything sourced from withing 50 miles of the store? A supermarket? Sorry, this ain't gonna work.
