+245 Powerball $786M - Don't screw it up!

Lets look at the #s

"$786M"

Lump Sum $341M

41% tax (Fed and State): $~200M

  1. Generosity:

-Current lifetime Federal Gift tax exemption (for a Married Couple) is $30M.

-Lets assume I give $20M immediately (non-Charity gifts). Yes, I am generous and WILL be blessing my close friends and family. This will leave $10 Million of giving for rest of my life without having to pay gift tax of 40%.

-My Heirs to the remaining estate balance at death will be taxes at Federal Gift & Estate tax of 40%.

  1. Spending/ Unplugged money from investment:

-Out of $180M left. = Spend / Unplug $30M

  1. $150M: Invest and draw income from interest

Conservatively invest $150M at ~5% APY

- Yield ~$7.5M a year interest

  1. Lifestyle

Spend that $7.5 Million a Year! :)

+104 @celiacsunshine Don't forget that you can give up to $19,000 ($38,000 if you're married) per year per recipient to an unlimited number of recipients, tax-free, without making a dent on your lifetime gift tax exemption. So you might want to consider setting up a fund for each of your gift recipients that's invested and pays out monthly or annually, up to the annual gift tax exemption amount.

+25 @navislut Good luck 🍀

+22 @TwoRoninTTRPG Well, you'll be able to afford tax advisors who will set up a Trust for you. Looking at this, you're paying more taxes than necessary.

+18 @atherfeet4eva I would pretty much follow that plan exactly. It always blows my mind when I see people on here saying they wouldn’t give any money to their friends or loved ones. If I didn’t do that I couldn’t live with myself. It would actually give me more pleasure than driving my new 1200 hp Corvette up to my new 6000 ft.² home lol

+16 @LPNTed Nice. I won't do details, but the gist is that I'll be 'giving away " about $112m, $50-$60m in real estate and spending the rest over the next 20 years.

+13 @gOldMcDonald I’m gonna buy Central Park and level it build my my own private go kart track.

+13 @concept12345 Interest income tax on that $7.5Million would be ordinary income tax. Throw that bulk into a municipal bond and pay no income tax at all. Yes, its lower percentages but on a base of $150Million, its still huge. Better yet create a donor designated fund or a personal foundation and designate for the rest of your life where that money goes. It wont be taxed but the money will go to your cause that you believe in. And you would have full control over it.

+11 @Redmandown16 It’s be so much money I don’t think I’d know how to spend it. I’d definitely spend quite a bit on a nice car collection. 1 home in a permanent location and 2 vacation homes, winter retreat and summer retreat. I’d probably build my permanent home to my spec. Outside of those first decisions no idea what I’d do next.Â
