If I were Filthy Rich
By ITrCool+45 IIWTL - I’d change careers and settle down
I have no major debt right now except normal monthly credit card debt for groceries, gas, and paying bills automatically. I just pay that off monthly.
That aside, I’d first-off plan to resign my IT career once and for all and step away from that increasingly messy and unsatisfying tech world. No more. I’m done with that life. However I wouldn’t just quit right off. I’d take it slow, work a couple more months, then submit my notice of resignation and phase out on a good standing, being careful not to burn any bridges.
Once done there, I’d meet with a financial advisor, invest most of the money in safe-growth investments and high yield savings accounts
I’d buy myself a fully loaded Wilderness Trek Subaru Outback
I’d buy a modest 3bd, 2ba home somewhere warm year-round like Florida or South Texas. Nothing flashy or fancy. No McMansions. I don’t need that.
I’d stash a considerable amount into an emergency fund and keep at least $20k in cash stashed somewhere safe that only I can access and know about.
I’d just travel and live for a solid year. No job or employer standing in my way. I would use the Subaru for that.
After that year, I’d pick up a job I love to do even if the pay is crappy. Working at a Dive Shop, or getting into full time YouTube, or working at a museum. Maybe even becoming a park ranger or a state/national parks employee of some capacity.
I’d pick up flight school and get my PPL, checked to fly small private jets too. Maybe even helicopters.
I’d get extremely involved in my community, and my church. Volunteering more time for ministries and other activities since I no longer need a full time job and don’t have an employer in the way. Maybe help out in some youth sports leagues, local homeless shelters, and/or local charity events such as 5K’s.
All of this while taking whatever time I need to, to build a new personal daily routine and workout regularly mid-day and evenings so I get into stellar physical shape.
