+228 Monday: 1.6B/463M after Fed Tax. Would you buy a plane just because you can?

A friend and I were day dreaming and talking about what we’d buy. We talked about planes. He would buy one, but not me. He wants to buy one and just absorb the cost so he can skip the airport waiting. Even if he just travels once a month.

For me, I can’t justify it. I’d rather buy business class ticket than worry about maintenance, salary, and pilot continuing education, etc. It would be a flex but that’s not my kind of thing.

What would you do?

+142 @Eagle_Fang135 You can fly private without owning your own plane. It is like having car service (limo) without owning it or having the drivee as an employee. They have memberships/timeshare type things. That’s what i would look into doing. Just like yachts. No need to own one when you can just rent a fully staffed one as needed.

+57 @Otherwise-Pirate6839 Nope. Let me travel in business with a commercial airline, or even private. I wouldn’t fly often enough to justify it.

+28 @throwawayfromPA1701 Private jet charters exist. I'd just do that.

+18 @Heavy_Bicycle6524 That’s be about $700M AUD. So just in interest alone that’d be almost $600K per week I do t think I’d buy a plane but you can bet I’d be flying first class everywhere I go

+17 @Shrodax Owning a plane doesn't make any sense unless you're traveling constantly. Like Taylor Swift gets shit for traveling by private jet, but that makes sense for a musician constantly on tour and flying to different cities. Or a CEO who needs to rotate through different company offices across the world every few days. It makes far more sense just to have a membership with a private jet charter service, like Wheels Up, and just order a private jet on the occasion you need it.

+17 @Lover_of_Titss Hard no on that. Too expensive and they’re much less safe than commercial flights. I’ve heard of way too many rich people dying in private jet crashes to want one.

+16 @KrAff2010 If I am just independently wealthy I could probably never justify buying my own Jet. Elon Musk levels of wealth in cash that’s in my bank account and I’m still flying first/business class with the occasional splurge of a chartered flight for special occasions. If I was the owner of some huge business that pulled in $100’s of millions yearly maybe I could justify it but after a lottery win? Absolutely not.

+11 @themadprofessor1976 No. It's not just the cost of the aircraft, The upkeep is gonna be expensive, and you have to have the plane log so many hours per year in order to maintain registration.
