If I were Filthy Rich

+299 What NOT to do if you win.

I'll start, but please contribute your own.

Don't tell your mom. You're really going to want to tell your mom. After a while, it's even going to feel like you're lying to her, or perhaps living a double life, if you don't tell her. Don't do it. Don't tell her. Don't say jack shit to her or to anyone, and especially not if you haven't talked to a lawyer yet.

+188 @BlueRFR3100 Don't fly to a private island owned by a financier to party with politicians and royal family members.

+178 @ashmaht Don't tell everyone you just got great deals on stuff on Black Friday. Eventually they'll catch on.

+87 @JeanLucPicardAND unless you're *really* bad with money and lack any self-control at all: Never take the annuity. You can get a better return on your own with a halfway-decent financial advisor. If the state ever goes bust, you might not even get paid on time... or possibly at all. If you're worried about the stock market, just don't play the stock market. Get into bonds or else invest in real property, or do *something* else that you can manage *on your own* instead of suckling on the teat of the state for 29 years.

+76 @TooTallTrey I’m splitting it with my brother 50/50. We’ve already discussed not telling anyone. Especially if it’s only a couple million each it would be easy to not tell. Where it gets messy is if we each get 80mil. Then I feel like there would be signs.

+68 @SomethingClever2117 I’m not telling anyone until that check clears. Once it does, I’m on a plane out of the country with a new phone number.

+54 @thai_iced_queef I understand the sentiment of not telling anyone but let’s all remember that everybody here has a different family. Y’all don’t know my mom lol. I can assure you without question that she would not go running her mouth to everyone. I would simply put her on a flight and fly her out to me so we can discuss the next steps. I know my family and know who’s trustworthy and who is questionable.

+51 @bunnyswan Do not be completely selfish, contribute to your community

+50 @emperor-dummy Don’t keep going to the place you bought the winning ticket from, although slim the chance the employees are curious and go through the footage aren’t exactly zero, especially if it’s a slow day

+49 @BabiesatemydingoNSW The fewer people who know the better off you are.

+40 @celiacsunshine Don't flaunt your newfound wealth. Money talks, wealth whispers. Don't try to get by without a lawyer and CPA. A good lawyer and a good CPA will ultimately save you more money than they cost. If you have kids, don't just hand them money and shirk your parenting responsibilities. And try not to disrupt their lives too much, especially if they're older. That might mean you'll have to suck it up and live a "stealth wealth" lifestyle until they grow up and move out.

+29 @Heavy_Bicycle6524 Don’t quit your job immediately. Set yourself up financially for the future and then start telling the big bosses what you think of them and the way they run the company. Eventually they’ll get jack of it and fire you. But not before you’ve taken good advantage of the employee discounts all all the things you wanted to buy but couldn’t on the pitifully low salary that they were paying you.

+24 @pettyfan45 "Don't tell your mom." Um mom might have some questions on why crews are ripping the house we all live in down to the studs and redoing everything

+22 @GhostNappa101 Me in my giant house and new car "nope, I totally didn't win the lottery"

+20 @KrAff2010 I wouldn’t gain generational wealth and not improve my close friends and families lives. They will know I came into money and there’s no way to hide that we’ll also helping them in the ways I want to.

+19 @jackgranger99 Don't lose or destroy the ticket and don't not cash it in.

+13 @kooboomz Don't quit your job so quickly if you rely on it for health insurance. You never know what can happen and medical bills can eat up your money fast.

+11 @thetripleb Honestly, I think the first thing you MUST do is take a picture with it and put it in a safety deposit box. The BIGGEST thing not to do is immediately go claim it.
