+16 Pros and Cons of owning a lake or pond?

If I win, I think it would be nice to have my private lake, but I don't actually know anything about it. Would it be a good idea or more trouble than it's worth?

+14 @ElConsigliere69 if you win $50M plus after taxes i think you can definitely hire people to take care of it

+14 @cullen9 Depends on what you are into. Like are you looking at from a view perspective, to encourage wildlife diversity, some place to swim, fish, koi?

+13 @TakingItPeasy I have a medium sizled pond that butts up to my property. It's nice that I get it as an amenitie, but not the upkeep financially. Good - looks nice, just looking at water lowers my stress / calming, brings in diverse wildlife (more on that later), can't ever have a neighbor there, more privacy / less noise, it's where all water runoff goes. Bad - if it was on my property = my expense, taxes, upkeep (more than you think) any problems have to be dealt with immediately my be. We just had a beaver problem over there, damm could have flooded my home and they took down over half the old growth trees there in 3 days which can't be replaced. Snakes, snakes, snakes. I hate snakes - and 1 year saw half a dozen in different places in my yard - Only 1 was poisonous soo far. Kids were playing in there once - if it was my property = liability. Stagnant water usually looks gross at times and smells, mine has consistent in AND outflow, outflow = maintenance trouble and expense. Poison ivy and weeds creep up to my property from it. All / most of those can be solved with enough money. Snake dependant.
