+61 How do you deal with the public when you just won the lottery?

In Ontario, there a person who just won the Blue Jays foundation 50/50 raffle prize. Worth about $25 million dollars in total winning.

Like imagine being him right now, where you get a phone called that you won the $25 million dollar raffle.

How do you handle all the sudden news. Unfortunately in Canada, your name, location and public image of you is required to claim the lottery. So you physically can’t be anonymous.

If you look throughout the news and social media, this person name and location is everywhere. Everyone knows he won the lottery.

So how does one deal with it? Knowing they need to move locations, get bodyguard, lawyers, financial advisor etc.

I mean they couldn’t even give him some time to handle business.

+40 @Musclecar123 Ontario here. Talk to some financial advisors and lawyers, then you go on vacation. Rent an apartment in Spain and hang out in a beach for a while until the heat dies down.

+29 @ValiXX79 Canadian here....you dont handle anything. Once the $$ hit your bank account, you delete social media, get a lawyer, accountant and leave the country for 6-12 months. Thats my plan.

+13 @AppleLightSauce I’d do whatever is required to claim the lottery. Then, I’ll change my legal name and of course my address and travel for around a year to enjoy myself. When I come back, I’ll change my look a bit. Things like beards/mustaches and a different hairstyle. People will have forgotten because lottery winners don’t become celebrities.

+12 @LPNTed I would just start booking trips and never stop.

+10 @Hitthereset I think this vastly overestimates how many people care who the lottery winner is and would go far enough to be looking for them out in public.
