If I were Filthy Rich
By taintedbow+71 If you won a large enough sum to never work again, but then had children, would you make them work?
I just had a random thought.
Most of us dream about winning the lottery and retiring early. But imagine you actually did win a large sum, and either don’t have children yet or have kids who are still too young to work.
If you and your partner no longer need to work, how would you approach teaching your children the value of money and instilling a strong work ethic, especially since they’d be growing up seeing their parents not working?
Considering that the amount you won might not be enough to fund them indefinitely, and they will likely need to work at some point, how would you prepare them for that reality while still providing a financially secure upbringing?

+50 @KrAff2010 Unless it’s generational amounts of wealth I don’t see myself retiring completely. Cutting back sure but not completely. I’d probably just emphasis that my wife and I are wealthy, my children are not. We’ll be there to help but they’d need to find their own way too. Even if the money is generational wealth level I’d still like to instill the idea to find something you love and make that a “job”. Everyone needs something to get up at the start of their day over, even if it’s just something like content creation.
+34 @postmanpat84 They would need to find some passion or goals in life. Don't want them turning into Brooklyn Beckham
+29 @Efficient_Good1393 They will be working, or they will actively be getting an education. They can do what they want, but they won't be sitting around doing nothing. I wouldn't be sitting on my ass doing nothing as well.
+13 @ATLDeepCreeker Yes. They would have to work and do chores and hit milestones in order to get lump sums of money. For instance, finish high school with an "A" average, get some money. Finish college with honors, get a lump sum, get an advanced degree, get a lump sum.
+13 @No-Vacation9110 Best is never to never tell your children about the fortune. They will be waiters . Waiting for you to die and inherit your money. Push them to pursue University Education and tell them you’re on your own once you finish your school. Protect them by not having so much money that people around them will take advantage of them . Let them have their money and provide for themselves.Once you found that they really deserve a financial help for a business, help them but let them paddle in life . Let them taste the sense of accomplishment and not put a spoon on their mouth.
