If I were Filthy Rich
By Blacksmith_Playful+65 Does anyone in this sub know someone or know of someone who actually won the lottery jackpot via powerball/megamillions/state lottery/scratch off ticket?
If so, do you know if said person won the jackpot on their first shot, or if they were an avid player who plays religiously (daily or weekly)? Also, do you know of anyone who has won the jackpot more than once?

+82 @breadad1969 Dad’s best friend won in California. I think it was a group of 6 shared and he ended up with about $3 million. He was less than 2 years away from full pension with a Union so nothing changed and he kept working 2 more years. Much better retirement though!
+67 @Dusse_Wayne My uncle’s girlfriend sister won 1 million bucks I think on the powerball…. Left her boyfriend and got a young dude from Chicago and he blew all her money
+53 @johnfro5829 I do, one of my best friends won the lottery many years ago it wasn't a huge amount but it was enough to change his life. It was a whole process for him to collect. Today he lives in a apartment building he owns with his dog, and his girlfriend and still drives the same 2001 Toyota Tacoma. He owns the building but it's owned through a trust so the other tenants think he's just another tenant with a double sized apartment. He only plays like once a week and I guess that week was lucky. He won a scratch off and a few years later the regular state lotto which was the big one. He was a nurse practitioner and still has his nursing license so kind of explain the way why he had so much money especially since he worked during COVID people don't really ask much questions.
+50 @Fenrirsulfr22 My boss won about 240 million a long while back. He ghosted everyone for about 6 months while he got affairs in order, and then it got out. He took most of us on vacation.
+46 @I-take-beast-shits I know someone who won a million back in the mid 90s when 1 million meant a lot. She opened a travel agency, restaurant, bought a race horse and other risky investments that never panned out.
+43 @whitetowellredshorts Yes. Not a Jackpot but $100000 in an Australian lottery. They invested it and nothing in their life changed really
+39 @lsp2005 Way back in the late 90s my teacher won $10 million. He split it with his brother. He bought a nicer car and kept working. He eventually retired when he qualified for his pension. He had won individually, but chose to split with his brother so they would have similar lifestyles.
+34 @motorboather Know someone who won $17 mil, was with him 30 mins before he bought the ticket, he played whenever.
+32 @AXXII_wreckless I knew a coworker whose mom won $250k off of a $5 scratch ticket. I told him that's the ultimate needle in the haystack bc the odds of that is insane.
+20 @heavenlydelusions1 How does everyone here know someone that won
+20 @wegotthisonekidmongo One of my good friends bought his friend a ticket and he won a million off it. He he promised him like $10,000. And wound up never paying my friend. The dude who scratched off the ticket took the million blew it on drugs women and illegal s*** and wound up broke doing the JG Wentworth thing for the rest of the money and is now in trouble with the law. But I think he was an avid player the guy who my friend bought the ticket for. Just goes to show you money can't buy class.
+18 @BoozieBumpkin Planning to win tonight?
+18 @enjoinirvana Great uncle won $50k. Nothing super huge but he and my great aunt vowed to quit drinking so as to not blow it so really paid in more ways than one can count.
+16 @mpr831 My fiancés friends mom won the big over a billion dollar lottery last year. Crazy. I think that’s why I play more now just in case 🤣
+16 @hjablowme919 Yup. And they won twice. Former neighbor hit a $3 million jackpot in the NY lottery. This was around 1988 or 1989. The husband was a mailman so he worked like 2 more years to get his pension and they sold everything and moved to Florida. About a year later, they hit the Florida lottery for almost the same money as the NY lottery they won.
+13 @stinstin555 My friend’s Mom won Cash for Life, she had just submitted her retirement paperwork. This gave her the ability to retire with more disposable income. She sold her home, moved out of state and got a beautiful home with a pool in a warmer climate. She bought one ticket every week for years. Good stuff.
+12 @Eagle_Fang135 A shift pool at one warehouse for our company won big. Probably like $2M a person or so. They all quit. List the full shift which was a hit for the company. Well most were over 50 so did early retirement. A few were more like in their 20s/30s and came back. Realized between current retirement and that after tax money they would not survive. See the older guys owned their houses, kids were out, etc. The winnings covered them retiring early and their retirement would do the rest. The young guys maybe had started a family and maybe started a mortgage. But little to no retirement plus a lot longer time to get to retirement. Do they had to come back. That $1M after taxes will let them retire early too if invested properly. But they gotta do the rest like the older guys.
