+37 The lottery before digitalization

I’ve been playing the lottery since 1981 😫Before it was computerized.

The betslips had carbon copies. You kept the carbon copy and gave the original to the ticket agent. It could take a few days for the lottery office to determine how many jackpot winners they had.

I always wondered how I could be sure the ticket agent was actually submitting the money and bet slips to the lottery. And of course the worst case scenario did eventually happen to someone. They had the winning numbers on the million or so jackpot, but the agent hadn’t turned in the tickets, so all he was entitled to was his $1 bet refund. 🥹
