+43 What's next step after you win?

Say you won last night's draw.
What are next steps?
Do you go and claim the prize and they deposit the funds into your designated bank account for you? Or what's the logistics?

+40 @Covid_45 Lots of paperwork and lots of waiting! I personally can’t wait to find out!  I’m sure it varies from state to state.

+26 @fartwisely Lawyer. Accountant. Set up trust. Make small upgrades to your life for first year or two before making bigger decisions. Budget yourself $100k for the next 12 months. Plenty for me as a SINK. Sock away the rest. Otherwise for first year pretend the rest of your millions aren't there.

+24 @Suitable-Scholar-778 Next step. Quit my job to give me full time to prepare for what's coming next. Step 2. Lawyer. Edit quiting to quiet quiting so I can use a bunch of sick time, personal time, and pto until I have to resign.

+11 @TinyMousePerson The next steps in the UK are that you call to validate it with them, then drive down to their office in Watford. They then introduce you to free financial and legal advisors that they trust for this (there's no kickback, lottery is a charity). They then work with you that day to speak to your bank about opening a new specialist account for this money which the financial advisor can then help you plan with. For me, it would be a "family emergency" to get off work followed by driving down with my wife. Probably at 50mph in complete silence, broken up by frantic conversations - it's about a 3.5h drive so that'll be a few cycles up and down in mood. My in laws have our son on Thursdays so we'd tell them we might be late home and we'd explain when we got home. Ideally I'd go alone for safety reasons but my wife is the one who manages our money and I am the decisive one.
