+149 What really happens when you walk in to claim big jackpot

Does anyone actually know exactly the process that happens when you walk in to the lotto office to claim a really big prize?

Is there a lot of paperwork? Do you really get a check for say a 100 million and you have to walk it to the bank later? South Carolina said you get a check ? Seems out dated. How long till you actually get paid out. Any one know?

+156 @Jesusiseternalgod I heard it can take months to actually get your money. I'll find out soon

+76 @series_hybrid You might be able to get a physically huge check for taking pictures with it, but...for the actual money, I would be shocked if it was handled any way other than a wire transfer from their bank to your bank...

+61 @johnfro5829 My friend won a substantial amount of money and they usually confirm your identity or confer with your lawyer to see how you collect, run a background check to make sure you don't have any warrants or owe any money to government agencies. And alot or forms to fill out my friend collected through his family lawyer but still had to help fill out three hours worth of paperwork. You had the option of direct deposit or check.

+40 @BlueRFR3100 According to their website, in Illinois you can print out the forms and complete them before you go to the claim center. You show up at the scheduled appointment, show them proof that you do indeed have the winning ticket and your ID. Then you can set up direct deposit or you can opt to have a check mailed to your home. They say it will take 4-6 weeks to receive your money whichever option you choose.

+32 @PreparationHot980 If it’s huge, they make sure you don’t owe the govt money or have any outstanding claims judgments in the state. If you do, they pay them off out of the win. It takes some time to get your payout and during that time you’ll have people offering you loans and stuff if they know you won. Don’t do it unless it’s your lawyer offering. I was at the lottery office once when someone won the big prize on a lucky for life scratcher that was thousands a week over X amount of years. She was obviously elated. I walked out with my $12k check in an hour or so for what I went there for.

+29 @MyNameIsHuman1877 Fairly simple form, copy of your photo ID and the original ticket for verification purposes. Once the ticket is verified unaltered and valid, you'll get a check in 6-8 weeks. There may be a bit more involved if you take an annuity. Mine wasn't large enough for annuity, but the lump sum process is the same.

+24 @Weregoat86 I always call and make a reservation.

+16 @Parodeer I always wondered what it shows on the app where you check/scan your tickets. Like, does it say “call the hotline”? Or, does it say you won 1.2 Billion dollars?

+14 @bluecgene I will find out in the near future

+12 @Content-Two-9834 Nope. Don't plan on finding out. I will leave it up to my lawyer and the trust to get my jackpot for me 🤑🍀💵🫶

+11 @JurassicPark-fan-190 There used to be a guy on this sub who worked for one of the lottos and answered this question before. It was told that most of the time they send their lawyers in/ have them call to set up a time.
