If I were Filthy Rich

We all know (i think we all know) that the chances of winning the jackpot are slim to none. The money going towards the lottery tickets we buy could be invested for a better return or something else. So statistically speaking if I buy a ticket I will not win. But in my mind I think “well someone has to win eventually, why not me”. What keeps you coming back and buying that $2 (or more) ticket?

+25 @Sleepdprived I only play when it's above 200,000,000 and I only play $3. I don't drink, I quit smoking, I try to work very hard for the money I get. If I spend less than $10 a month on vices I still feel responsible.

+25 @dirty_corks A single lottery ticket is a license to dream, as my college probability and statistics professor used to say

+18 @DrunkPhoenix26 I tend to get one or two tix per week (game draws twice a week). It gives me something to day dream about when commuting, exercising, etc. I know the chances of winning are essentially zero, but having a ticket gives way higher odds than not. On top of that, $4/week or $208/year isn’t changing my life.

+12 @CdnWriter It's a daydream and a small price to pay, plus I \*might\* win so why not risk a few bucks a week?

+12 @Covid_45 I’ve missed the jackpot by 1 and 2 numbers.  And where I live the PB and MM prize for 5/5 can be in the low to mid 6-7 figures, and those odds are fairly attainable.  And as you mentioned, someone has to win.  They say its always someone else, but why can’t I be the someone else to you!?
