If I were Filthy Rich
By tobesteve+25 People who would give a lot to charity, why?
Based on this link, looks like only 5% of the collected money goes to winners, the rest is used for public schools, overhead, and such. I mention this as some good is already being done with the money, before the winner gets their share.
I'm surprised when people mention they would give a significant amount to a charity. Do you have specific charity in mind, and how much would you gift?
Do you think it would be good to have a mandatory percentage that the winner has to donate to a charity of their choice? (Perhaps from an approved list.)

+34 @bay2341 This question is so odd, and such a testament of where we are in society. Why would we help others when we have the resources to?

+25 @PleasantlyCrazyActnt There are a lot of people out there who are living in absolutely poverty, don't have food, water or shelter the basic necessities of life. It would be absurd to win tens of millions of dollars and then not give anything to charities in my mind. Yeah I could try to give money to them directly but the amount of scams I'd have to wade through would be insane. I was also raised with the rules to give 10% of money I made to charity, so it's something that's on my mind though currently as an adult I only give about 5% of the after tax I make due to also helping my parents. Of course you need to vet the charities and make sure they are actually doing the work and not just spending it on admin costs but there are plenty of good ones. I certainly do NOT think it should be required, especially making them choose from a list of pre approved charities would be crazy. Because whichever political party is in charge could absolutely weaponize it. And also requiring it doesn't get people involved and invested emotionally.
+22 @TheLizardKing89 Because what else am I going to do with the money? Buy another house or another car?
+13 @AFurryThing23 One of my twins died when she was 3 due to complications at birth from twin to twin transfusion syndrome so I always donate to their foundation when I can.
