If I were Filthy Rich

If you won a large amount of money how would you go about not spoiling the kids. I think most people would give gifts etc but how do you not take away their desire to do or achieve something themselves. It’s easy to give them a million or two but then they probably aren’t going to be very driven in life.

I personally like the idea of a salary match. If they earn £30k I will match it. With a multiplier applied to jobs that serve the good of others. So if they work for evil corp I will match but if they work as a nurse or something low paid but helps people ill match at 1.5x to encourage this.

Alternatively what about a UBI. Pay them the average income so they are no longer bound at all by what a job pays to decide if they want to do it.

What are your ideas?

+11 @breadad1969 It all depends on how much we’re talking about. If I have $$20 million after taxes, you’re helping them out a bit, buy a modest house for them, a reasonable car, but they’re mostly on their own. But if you’ve got $100 million plus after taxes, your world is now very different and so is theirs. Then you need to make sure they get educated about money, and then you can afford to let them follow a passion, but not just be a bum.
