If I were Filthy Rich
By macheteinmyrightmit
+35 Why does everyone think they’ll instantly be hunted down and robbed or killed for winning mega millions of dollars? It’s happened before but it’s rare and cash use is lower than ever, most people know you’ll most likely be using credit/debit

I’m exaggerating a bit but majority of people believe they have to immediately move away and change their phone number …honestly what do u think would happen

+67 @TheLizardKing89 I don’t think I’d be robbed or killed but I do think that I’d be harassed if I didn’t take actions to protect myself by keeping my information secret.

+48 @ChestertonsFence1929 Based on interviews with those that have won the lottery: winners have experienced a deluge of requests for money, have been stalked, been the subject of crazy rumors, have been touched “for good luck”, asked to pick numbers for strangers, experienced anger and jealousy by others, and even been sued with fictitious claims for money. Who needs that stress in their life?

+48 @Lanky_Possession_244 It's because as soon as word gets out that you are loaded now and it wasn't from working or building a company, everyone you've ever known will have a chance that they will start asking you for a piece, pitching business ideas, or treating you differently because you have a pile of cash you might share with them. The fewer people that know, the better. Why does everyone else need to know your financial situation?

+20 @sunshinelollipops95 It's less about being robbed and more about being harassed, in my opinion. People you knew from high school but haven't spoken to in 20 years would suddenly remember you and want to hang out again. Cousins you haven't seen in a decade will suddenly start inviting you to their kid's birthday parties. People you worked with 3 years ago will look you up on facebook and want to tell you all about the new business idea they have *that just needs $50,000 to get started....* You'd start to question if anyone in your life is genuine or not. Money changes people.

+11 @celiacsunshine Because [it has actually happened](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Shakespeare?wprov=sfla1), for one thing. I would personally be more worried about stalking, harassment, and frivolous lawsuits, though. That's why IIWTL I will be claiming anonymously via blind trust, setting up a substantial safety fund, and leaving the country for at least a couple of years after collecting my winnings. I'm more worried about the friends and relatives I would he giving money to, as they will likely also be stalked, harassed, and sued.
