If I were Filthy Rich

+19 How do you feel about giving money for charity/poor?

I've seen lot of posts about buying luxury cars and houses (and i wrote one too) but with huge amount of money, i'd be hard to spend it all on myself. And i'd be really sorry for all these people who didn't even have 5 dollars to buy something to eat, while i'm in luxury car driving to my apartament after "hard day" of travelling and spending money on some luxury shit.

If i really won, i'd send monthly transfers to certain charity organizations. Also in my testament, i'd split money between my family and charity. Because really, if i get a chance to do something good to the world, why not?

I wonder, what's your opinion about it? Would you send money for charity organizations or poor, or keep all the dough for yourself?

+18 @AndromedaFire I would prefer to avoid the big charities and focus on smaller more individual causes. If I set aside say 100k for charity each year I want to actually choose and see the impact of it not just be paying the new marketing exec salary at a big charity. I read a story a while ago about a security guard who found a child crying because the kid lost his parents £10 shopping money and the guard gave the kid £10 himself, I would send the guy somewhere nice for a weekend. Someone posted it was their first day working as a nurse and someone stole their bicycle from outside the hospital I would send them a new one. I’m pretty poor at the moment, drowning in debt but my total debt is less than what many people will carry on a single credit card so I know and understand that small amounts of money can make a massive difference to people’s lives so that’s what I would do lots of small, individual acts of charity. Note to the realism fans here: I’m aware that donating this way sacrifices the tax gains of donating to registered charities but to be honest I don’t care and would rather do it this way anyway.

+11 @zamboniman46 i'd definitely donate a big chunk of money. i'd go up to 30% of my winnings depending on how much i won. i have some things in mind that i'd donate to right away, and i'd probably set up a private foundation with the remainder and get the tax deduction now while i figure out how to donate the rest. preventing homelessness and hunger and providing/improving education are the causes I'd want to donate to the most
