You’ll also want another trust for plain purchases. Maybe you want mansions, but keeping a regular house in your neighborhood is good for having a presence without people knowing what you’re really worth. Same for a regular used car and average clothes. If you look like money and smell like money, someone’s gonna come looking to help you spend it or take it off your hands altogether. YOU don’t exist anymore. Your bank accounts, properties, vehicles, etc. are all owned by trusts, of which, you are the beneficiary and manager. Enjoy your wealth and your peace.

+131 @Restil Wait several months before collecting it, especially if the ticket was purchased locally where people might have heard about it. Have a trust with a non-assuming name accept the winning ticket, so at least it's not obvious just from a scan of the list of winners. Find some obscure MLM scheme and get just enough involved in it that you can convincingly pull off the lingo, possess their marketing crap, and have a handful of their products on hand. Then, let a rumor start that you've gone headfirst into some MLM scam. Now you can slowly improve your lifestyle. Buy a new car, maybe upgrade to a nicer house, but nothing too flashy at first. You're going to attract attention, so you need to divert that attention before it gets out of hand. Now, anytime someone gets nosy about your apparent upgrade in lifestyle, start your MLM sales pitch and invite them to a "party" and insist on having them quit their job, and invest their savings and jump into this amazing opportunity you've discovered. With luck, everyone you know will have enough sense to avoid anything obviously MLM like the plague, so they will go from being nosy to avoiding the subject at all costs. Furthermore, you can occasionally drop a hint that your new car has a 10 year payment plan on it and it's still killing you. Same thing with the house... mortgaged to the hilt.... but it's still a great deal because it will totally go way up in value in the next few years... yeah! Point is, you can have a nice house, nice cars, and all the other nice stuff and justify it all with maxed out credit and a MLM scam that is certain to fail. Everyone will look at your lifestyle with a smug satisfaction that eventually your financial house of cards will fall apart and they'll get to be the first one to predict it. Meanwhile, they'll mostly leave you alone. If they don't, then just ask to borrow money from them.

+66 @InvestedInThat I won 75$k (I know—it’s not a million, but I was still plenty happy and grateful) just before Canada Day and my husband is the only one who knows. My friends and I struggle, and in order to not be tempted to do dumb things, I put it in an investment account. I kind of feel blessed bc it’s not a ridiculous amount. So far the only indulgence was like 220$ at Lush and another 400-500$ on more scratch tickets.

+29 @PornoPaul Depends on how much it is. Currently the NYS lottery is like, 2.8 million. Most folks know if you take lump sum, you dont get as much, and NYS will take a loooot of it. So while I would fly under the radar, even if people find out they'll know its a lot less. I would still probably wait a few months to collect it though. The bigger ones, like the MM or Powerball? Im finding that old reddit comment that went over piece by piece how to play it safe, waiting to collect for however long I can while still giving myself wiggle room, which in NY is about 9 months. The trick is, get it under an LLC, and dont buy anything crazy, at least not where you live. If you really need to, take a regular vacation except instead of going to the Santa Monica pier or the Grand Canyon, you're in LA or Denver looking at houses. If you buy a nice house surrounded by nice houses, it will not turn heads the same way buying that mansion locally only 4 people can afford in town will. If youre from a big city, it is easier to blend in. I am from a mid sized city myself, so while I could keep it quiet, eventually it'd get out and at that point Im driving down to New Orleans to ride out the crazy train in my townhouse in the French Quarter.

+21 @Big-Sheepherder-6134 I am pretty much retired in my early 50’s. It’s pretty obvious to everyone we have money. Can’t hide everything. But I am not wealthy in that I have millions. Not yet anyway. So if/when I were to ever win I would already know how to deal with it. However I would definitely pick up the tab and help people a lot more than I already do. I can’t complain now though.

If you’re buying a new home, luxury cars, vacations and lord knows what else all within the span of a few months, people will put 2 and 2 together or at least suspect that you’ve won. Having the restraint to upgrade your life both subtly and slowly seems like a good way to not rouse suspicion around friends & family.

+16 @nadjrules I'd claim my winnings anonymously. Because I want flashy things--a Rolls Royce Cullinan would be one of my first purchases--I have an elaborate tale for friends and family. When questioned about the car, for example, I'd simply say "It belongs to my boyfriend Greg. No, you can't meet him right now, he's working in London. He works in finance and trusts me with his things when he's away." I plan on hiring someone to pretend to be him when needed and they'll need to have the skills to be rude af if anyone asks him/us for money. This will drastically cut down on anyone asking me for money beyond basic things, and I'll be able to gift people whatever amount I choose without any real chaos occurring.

At this time the info is still hidden . No one knows, because I don't change my lifestyle or my routine. Keep your current job. Or change it to a relaxed one (ie. Uber driver). Don't buy a exotic car. Or expensive clothes . Your money can work for you invested in low risk assets. No one needs to know if you don't go berserk with the expenses. Even you can buy apartments for rent. You have people managing them. Only tell the lottery winning to your wife. Not even your kids should know.

+11 @TashaT50 I’m in a state that lets me use an LLC for claiming so I’ll be doing that to be anonymous. I plan on setting up family trusts. Most of my family is either no contact with me or I’m going no contact with them. A few friends will get anonymous trusts. I’m currently single. I’m disabled so I don’t work. One friend I plan on living with after the win - we buy the tickets together. I think I’ll be able to keep it secret. I definitely plan on having fun with a portion of the money. House, cars, help around the house. Living our best life with our disabilities and pampering our cats.
