I buy a powerball ticket every draw, and I love imagining how a win could give me a completely new lease on life or how I would spend the money.
I expected the sub to be fun, but it’s actually quite gloomy and dramatic. Not about current problems that would make someone fantasize about winning the lottery (which fair, me too), but about hypothetical made up problems.
Half of the answers to question about what would you do with X amount of money are these paranoid, negative ramblings. I think it comes from that viral comment about “what to do if you won the lottery.” It tried to make it see like this awful thing for which you *must be prepared for less it fuck up your life.* Overwhelmingly it would not! It’s not a healthy mindset to turn what would be pure luck and wealth into something negative and dangerous.
How many people in the real world know who Edwin Castro is or looks like? Damn near nobody! There are legal avenues to protect you from bullshit litigation. Have none of you dreamed about like opening an ice rink? Starting a business? Why is it alway run off and be alone and hide like a fairy tale dragon?

+70 @jackrussellenergy I agree! Some people here can be such Debby Downers. If you win the upcoming jackpot you’re walking away with something like $130M after lump sum and taxes. Personally, I’m setting up my two closest family members (10s of millions each). “Small” sums to extended family and friends. Buying homes in Cali, Miami, and France (maybe more, who knows!). I’m spending my free time on hobbies just for the heck of it. I’m going to events all around the world for the heck of it F1, Paris Fashion Week, Wimbledon! I’ll be eating the best food, wearing the best clothes, staying in the best accommodations, and loving every second of it.
+45 @bravogolfhotel It's interesting to me how often "buy a farm in the middle of nowhere" crops up in posts in this sub. The grinding labor and desperate dependence on favorable weather (and, if one keeps animals, the unending blood, shit, and death) of a working farm are nowhere near my idea of worry-free living...
+29 @TashaT50 My dream plans include a mini indoor amusement park. I’ve always loved carousels so I want one of my own. I spend a lot of time on r/zillowgonewild and get lots of wild ideas there. Both for my over the top dream home and the mini amusement park. I’ve always had plans to help out family members, a changing set of friends, and justice causes/charity. But over the years, I’m almost 60, I’ve also learned the world can be a dangerous place, and some people get entitled around money, so I also have steps to protect myself built in. For me it’s about balance. I intend to enjoy my money but I’m not as trusting as I was 40 years ago.

+16 @BoomyNote I mean I wouldn’t go into hiding or anything but you probably would wanna set up some basic safety measures like “don’t tell literally everyone about it unless you want random people to ask you for money forever”. I do agree though that it’d be nice to see more like cool/positive ideas people have as opposed to just the “i’d run away and hide and escape” posts

+14 @bartexas I've said before, we have a friend who has at least $100M in real estate in the homes I've visited. There have been articles written about donations he's made $5M-$20M. There's a guys who's been on Forbes' billionaires list for years that has a ranch down the road from us in our small(ish) town. Neither one has security. They eat in normal restaurants, even dive bars.
