+12 Have you ever known someone that has won a large lottery?

If so, what was that like?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what the optics would be like if I were to win a large lottery. Obviously, those around you would notice that your lifestyle has changed even if you try your best to make it less obvious. I wouldn’t live an overly lavish lifestyle, but I certainly wouldn’t be going to my 9 to 5 job anymore and people would notice. I also really like where I live and wouldn’t want to uproot that just because I came into money.

All that in mind, it just got me thinking what would it be like for my kids for example if their friends knew that something was up. Curious if anyone has experienced the other side of that

+14 @EnvironmentalTwo3810 Depends on what you consider to be a large lottery. My aunt won a $10M scratch off a few years ago in her 60s. Thats about $4M after taxes. The financial hardship she faced went away. She stayed in Brooklyn and decided to help manage her daughter's career. Their lifestyle isn't ordinary but it isn't so extraordinary that its obvious that they won the lottery.

+11 @Prince_Kaos Without intending to, I found out through a casual conversation with a semi-close neighbour - as she used to do shift work and was never home much, then we got chatting and she looked so much happier, refreshed and relaxed and was excited to tell me about 'yet another holiday'. She let slip and trusted me to keep it quiet, which I have that she won a Lotto Prize circa $25m (tax free) about 2 years ago and it allowed her to retire early (from being a nurse) and enjoy life more. As she knew I worked in finance, i didn't overreact and just took the news calmly and let her be.
