If I were Filthy Rich

I can understand why people play the lottery. Even if it's statistically low chance of winning, there really is no way to become a multimillionaire (like $10mil+) for the vast majority of people, even for people who work as doctors and lawyers. For doctors and lawyer types who frugally save (and most don't honestly), they might have like $5M at retirement but that's when their life is way past their prime.

Playing the lottery truly is the only way for most of us to get a net worth of over $10M, or even just $1M, and even if the chance of winning is lower than the chance of getting hit by lightening, why wouldn't you try?

+68 @Zerojuan01 It's the dreaming that you pay for when you play the lottery. Really winning is just a bonus.

+25 @Nomski88 The average person who is financially responsible and earns a median salary will be lucky to see anything over $1 million at retirement. Not everyone is in corporate or tech making six figures. Just the reality of things, reddit tends to be biased because most people in these higher earning positions are browsing these finance subs from the comfort of their office.

+16 @MuttJunior I don't play the lottery every drawing or every week. I go many times for months without buying a ticket. It would be nice to be a multimillionaire. But I am happy with my current situation as well. I own my own home (paying a mortgage), a newer car (3 years old and still making payments on), and a camper (paid off). I make all my payments on time and have money going into a savings account. And after all this, I still have money left over at the end of the pay period. I have no complaints about my current financial situation. More is better, but not necessary.
