+98 $2B powerball

The $2B powerball from a couple years ago had a lump payout of 997.6M, after taxes in my neck of the woods is roughly $580M.

What’s the quickest way to turn that $580M into a billion plus in wealth?

+117 @TheLizardKing89 The quickest way would be to buy a ton of options and hope they move in the right direction. The safest way would be to invest in an index fund. If the winner of that jackpot had claimed it immediately (November 2022) and invested $580 million in an S&P index fund, they’d have about $891 million today.

+44 @og_ricc Why would anyone need to turn it into a billion dollars? I mean, $580 million dollars buys you the exact same thing that a billion dollars does.

+30 @Sure-Juggernaut-2215 Bet it all on black. Why even try to rush it to a billion? You could easily get it to a billion with a financial advisor/investment firm in like 8-10 years. While living lavishly

+22 @life_hog Use the $580MM to pay someone to turn it into $1BN

+21 @JefferyTheQuaxly $580 million (or let’s round down to $550 mil so you have some spending cash)invested in VOO at an estimated 7% annual return would take around 9 years to grow to $1 billion, or if you took out $100,000 a month in addition to all that, it would… still take 9 years at 7% annual return. (1.02 bil vs 1.006 bil) So I would do that.

+11 @DoyersDoyers The quickest way to turn it into a billion may also be the quickest way to lose it, but, since we're going for speed... walk into a vegas casino to a roulette table, put it all on black or red (assuming they'd allow you to bet that much).
