+83 Shut up about the winner being in California

I've seen numerous posts just this morning complaining about the winner of last night's billion dollar lottery being in California again.

It's not a scam, it's not rigged for California, there's none of that. Learn how the lottery works, learn how numbers and statistics works, and learn basic facts, but above all,

Get. Over. It.

If you're upset you lost, then you're playing for the wrong reasons and you shouldn't be playing anyway.

Stop getting butthurt about it. Get help for your addiction.

Yes, the Megamillions lottery will increase in price to $5 per play in April. As I understand it, each ticket will automatically include the Megaplier, so you don't have to opt in, you'll automatically get the increase with the multiplier for each draw. The Powerball will stay unchanged at the same price of $2/play for the foreseeable future, with their various add-ons, until they inevitably change it and/or raise prices for that too.

You do not have to keep playing the Megamillions. You do not have to keep playing the lottery at all. This sub is called "If I Won The Lottery". We fantasize about winning. Stop complaining you lost again.

The first rule of playing the lottery is "You're Not Going To Win". The second rule of playing the lottery is "You're Not Going To Win".

+36 @gvillager So I ran the numbers. California has a population of 39 million while the United States has a population of 339 million. This also includes Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah that don't have a lottery. So 11.5% of the US population lives in California. Since April 2020 Megamillions has sold 32 jackpot tickets with 6 of them being in California which is 18.5% In that same time Powerball has sold 34 jackpot tickets with 6 of them being in California which is 17.6% So while for now they are winning slightly more than what their population represents it's not a statistical anomaly. We have hot and cold states just like we have hot and cold numbers.

+33 @sporkbeastie Agreed. The lottery is a fun little thing we do. I'm never gonna win. But for $4, the pseudo-girlfriend and I can spend a couple hours having cocktails and talking about what we would do if we did. It's cheap entertainment. My rule has always been: don't gamble with money you would not be comfortable flushing down the toilet, after setting it on fire.

+19 @life_hog You don’t understand, I was supposed to win and those bastards stole my money

+17 @Icy_Eye1059 The winner could have been either in Florida or California. I don't think they realize that. The bigger the jackpot, the more tickets are bought in either state.

+11 @IndividualAd9484 Cool lecture, anyone want anything from Wendy’s ?!?!
