If I were Filthy Rich

+104 I don't get why so many people want these uber-expensive massive homes if they were to win the Mega Millions / Power ball.

It's like they are completely unaware of the taxes and maintenance that goes along with such a huge house. Plus, many of these homes are in gated communities which actually increases your chance of being burglarized.

Me? Give me a nice medium-large house on at least 2 acres, no HOA on a paved road that still has high-speed cable or fiber internet available. That's my bare minimum. I would tell the realtor "If you show me one house in an HOA community that will be the last house you show me." Once that is out of the way, as long as the house fits my needs I am good.

+70 @MaloneSeven I can’t understand why someone would want something that I wouldn’t get for myself. What a open-minded concept!

+59 @TheLizardKing89 I would love to see your evidence that gated communities increase the chance of getting burglarized.

+44 @Rude-Manufacturer-86 I don't want the giant house. I do want security and a neighborhood or surrounding area of similar relative affluence. I love the idea of buying land and building my own dream house, like an expanded mid century theme but with security and smart home features, but I absolutely hate waiting and I don't know any construction that actually finishes within the projected timeline. But personally, privacy and security here is a priority goal.

+26 @D2boujee I think a lot of people who grew up poor essentially always dreamt of having a huge home and land of their own.. Now with the free money they won they can do that. Taxes and maintenance are inevitable, they just need to make sure it’s within their means with the help of a financial advisor / solicitor. Doesn’t sound that far fetched.

+18 @MaloneSeven Why would anybody want a house with at least two acres. That’s ridiculous. All that land to take care of.

+15 @lochnessprofessor Telling reddit about a clutch phrase of a non-existent conversation you're planning to have with a non-existent realtor so you can spend $300k of your non-existent $100M winnings is awesome. And this realtor.... if she has glasses, I'm done with her. And she better drive an Audi or better. I'm a friggin' millionaire, for crying out loud.

+14 @celiacsunshine I'm the one who posted about the crazy Beverly Hills estates for sale, including the $155 million one. If you read my captions, I said that I would not actually buy those houses. I just came across those listings, thought that they were a pretty ridiculous way to spend a jackpot, and thought it would be fun to post them here. IIWTL I personally wouldn't spend more than 20% of my winnings on a house. And probably much less than that, because eventually I'd might want to buy a vacation condo or two (not right away, though). And I could get a very nice house for under $10 million even in a highly desirable VHCOL location, because I don't need a huge, conspicuous mansion.

+12 @capnsmartypantz I wouldn't even consider buying a house for at least a year. I have a handful of places I am interested in and would rent high end places in the area to see where I wanted to land. I'd also only want one residence, I can rent when I travel instead of paying and maintaining multiple ones.
