If I were Filthy Rich
By TheSavannahSapphire
+107 I feel like some people's winning plans are so unrealistic

I see so many people say they would ghost everyone they know, change their name, and move to Monaco or something if they won big and it always makes me think..."Would you really tho?". I've seen some people even say they'd fake their own deaths...like, come on! This is real life, my guy. I saw someone even say they wouldn't tell their spouse! I also think some people underestimate how miserable they would be if they just abandoned everyone they know and love.

It just seems so silly and sad and confuses me. I also think people don't realise how picky real rich people are when it comes to friends. They think they will just make new, fellow rich friends, but people who come from true wealth are not gonna wanna associate with a random lottery winner from rural Iowa.

I find people who claim they would keep living their normal life the exact same way (keep their job, their decade-old car, and dusty house) just so people won't know they're rich to be amusing. Like, bestie...with MILLIONS of dollars in the bank? You're quitting your job at the first inconvenience lol.

+53 @Throwaway01122331 I plan on sleeping in and playing a lot of video games if I won.

+29 @zamboniman46 yeah a lot of the over planning to avoid attention is dumb. i especially love the ones where they want a security team with them at all times. super expensive and just unneccesary. just change your phone/email, delete social media, and lay low for a year or two. go live in a high rise in a big city where there are plenty of other rich people, probably richer than you to be honest, and wait. real friends will understand and wont ask for anything unless their spouse/kids need money for a life saving surgery. fake friends will be pissed at you for disappearing and wonder where their cut is.

+22 @Dariel2711 100% this. It makes me insane. Like you want to leave the people who know and care about you so you can find new friends who like you because you’re rich? It’s like they read the 25 stories of lottery winners going broke and instead of realizing thousands don’t, and learning how not to, they think it’s easier to just disappear. Or live the same life? Then why even win?

+14 @espositojoe Depending on how much I won, I would first pay off every mortgage in my family. Then, I would buy a car for a disabled friend who can't afford to buy one. After that, I don't know.

+12 @LePetitMouton If you're willing to move away and never talk to your friends again, they weren't really your friends. And if that's your life, I feel sad for you.

+9 @lvansmoo This will be extremely unpopular but I genuinely don't get the big deal/issue people have with asking for money. I saw a post asking if you won 500 million (after taxes!!!) would you give anything to friends or family and there were commenters literally saying that if anyone even dared ask they would go no contact. I mean maybe they hate their families, but why do that to their friends who assumably they chose to be friends with? I have no problem with people asking, and would help where I could which I could do a lot with 500 million, and then say no when I've already done what I could for them. I feel like asking for help, if you are close, is a completely reasonable human reaction especially in this economy.
