If I were Filthy Rich
By SoCalRedTory
+17 What kind of business(s) would you open?

If you won a billion or two or something?

  1. Would you be willing to open a "business" even if it runs a loss (supported by investments) because you appreciate the service or even space it provides?

  2. Any big or small economic development plans like save the small town or something?

+21 @outworlder The best bet is not to reinvent the wheel by doing something you are (probably) not qualified to do. Create a foundation and sponsor well run existing organizations. With that amount of money you can pretty much dictate how they should operate.

+17 @Daegog Absolutely NOT happening. I would be very giving to charities, but opening a business? No way in hell, I would add stress like that to my life if I was worth billions.

+11 @uberbewb Massive community centers. To the extent inside they are like a university/mall. Data center in the basement to provide heat via steam channels, reduce some running costs depending on location. People get so caught-up with being home or having stuff at home. We really have lost a certain sense of genuine community. The number of decent community centers is so small it is no surprise that some people end up in bad states of mind. I would go huge, to the extent of having kitchens, woodshops, and warehouse storage with those tiny elevators to deliver supplies, reduce an artists running costs and allow them to leave leftovers to others interested in getting involved, but lack immediate funding. Empowering creativity would be the primary goal with respects of community involvement. Oh and gardens. Community gardens everywhere.
