If I were Filthy Rich

+47 What features would you include in a dream house?

I have been looking at pictures of the typical types of lottery dream houses. So many of them include things like tennis courts and wine racks/tasting rooms, which just don't interest me at all.

Personally if I was doing a new build I would love to include something like a full arcade with a bowling lane.

What outrageous additions would your dream build have?

+44 @Rochonski Heated floors, multi zone climate control, and a steam shower. Obviously there's more things but those were the first 3 practical ones off the top of my head

+17 @mangonel Probably very little of all that stuff. I live reasonably close to a luxury spa, there are bowling lanes a short drive away. I'm not interested in tennis, squash or real tennis, but all of those facilities are nearby. I'd rather go to a club where I can meet new people to play with, rather than hope one of my friends is at the same level as me and wants to come round to play. The main reason for having any of that stuff in your home is convenience. If you are a cash-rich/time-poor investment banker, you need your own pool, sauna and gym because you don't have the time to go out to those places. IIWTL, I'd have all the time in the world. I'd buy memberships to several nearby places. If I fancy a sauna or swim, I'd either stroll to the small place in town, or drive to the big luxury one. I'd probably not even bother with any significant kind of workshop. I'd prefer to upgrade the local makerspace and go there. I might have a small gym, so I can do little workouts if I'm in the mood. A few pinball tables, as they are not so common around here. I would set up a space where I could privately display all the family's artistic creations as though they were in a public museum or gallery.

+16 @coolguy1793B swivel pad in the garage. Drive in, and it'll turn the car around to leave. Oh and the car would be a Ferrari 812.

+16 @TheLizardKing89 Swimming pool and a home tiki bar.

+16 @kortisol Walk in shower. Walk in closet. Walk in cellar.

+11 @emmaleth Nugget ice maker (Sonic ice) Heated floors Library and reading room

+10 @BillsInATL Lazy river throughout the house, connecting all rooms, so I can roll out of bed into my lazy river and float down to the kitchen for breakfast.

+7 @oregonchick I want a normal scale home for daily living (max 2,500 square feet, but under 2,000 would be better) that's super luxurious and comfortable. Then I want a three-story party barn with a main floor that's a huge open great hall for big parties, dinners, weddings, and so on. The main floor would have restrooms, a commercial kitchen, and a huge fireplace, as well as a large patio and windows to take in the views. Top story is a handful of small bedrooms and a couple of big bunk rooms (so people can sleep off an evening of drinking or for slumber parties with the little cousins in my gigantic extended family), along with restrooms and shower rooms. In the basement is a huge sports bar type space with bar, TVs, jukebox, arcade games, two-lane bowling alley, and some kind of theater. There would be an attractive staircase, but also an elevator so the whole building is accessible. The separate building keeps big parties from spilling into my private spaces. I have so many family members and we always struggle to find good spaces to have holiday parties or reunions, so this would actually get regular use. It's a space I can "loan" to friends and family members for their special events, even if I don't attend. And when it's not in use, it can be basically shut down so it's not being kept heated or cooled. Plus I'm not living in a giant house that's spooky at night just so I can occasionally have a party. LOL
